about
Scott Alden was the inaugural artist-in-residence for The Wayfaring Band in July of 2013. He wrote the song "I'm with the Band" as an ode to our adventure attending a stone age living skills camp called Earth Knack in Crestone, Colorado.
The Wayfaring Band is not a rock-and-roll band, but a band of travelers. We create road trips and adventure travel for adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities. We also offer a social leadership program for adults without disabilities who are interested in inclusion and diversity. Finally, each trip welcomes an artist-in-residence to the group, and that artist is tasked with creating an "ode" to our adventure.
All proceeds from downloads of "I'm with the Band" go directly toward supporting The Wayfaring Band programs. Thank you for participating. #EverybodyIn!
lyrics
If I had a dime for every time I've drawn a line
And stood behind it on the side I drew it from
I could take me and my friends around this whole wide world
And see what we've become.
There's no time but the present and though I'm a little hesitant
I'm ready to see everything out there
I'm gettin' on the bus and I am leavin'
My new home is everywhere.
Whoa-oa-oa the map is not the territory
So-o-o let's change the way we tell the story
No no no, there is no need for you to worry
Well it's all right, man: I'm with the band!
My mind feels electrified from all this new perspective
I am livin' for each second and it's cool.
And I'm seein' things I never did believe I'd see
And they're seein' me too
Babblin' brooks to sand dunes, oh man when you're with the band
You play along to any tune that you can hear
And I won't hit every note but that old rhythm's ridin'
It goes boom-boom-boom-boom-boom so sweet and clear
Whoa-oa-oa the map is not the territory
So-o-o let's change the way we tell the story
No no no, there is no need for you to worry
Well it's all right, man: I'm with the band!
Well it's all right, man... I'm with the band!
